Ancient Iraqi City Hosts International Calligraphy Event

IQNA – The ancient city of Ur in Iraq recently hosted an International Arabic Calligraphy Festival, where Quranic verses and Islamic calligraphy artworks were showcased to the public.

 

Artists and calligraphers from Iraq and several other countries, including Iran, Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, and Indonesia, participated in the festival held in Dhi Qar province.

More than 50 calligraphic artworks, primarily in the Thuluth script, were displayed.

The festival featured a collection of works in Thuluth, Jali, Diwani, Persian, and contemporary calligraphy styles. The event was met with significant enthusiasm from art enthusiasts and local audiences alike, Alahwar-TV reported.

During the opening ceremony, Ahmed Farhan Al-Khafaji, a member of the Dhi Qar Provincial Council, highlighted the cultural significance of Arabic calligraphy in Iraq’s identity. He also praised the participating artists for enriching the festival with their creative contributions. 

Among the notable participants was the "Wal-Qalam" calligraphy center, affiliated with the Dar-ol Quran of the Imam Hussein (AS) shrine. The center exhibited its Quranic calligraphy works at the festival.
